Une journée à L'Étranger

People often ask us: “What’s it like to run a café like this?” The answer? Every day feels like writing a new chapter in a never-ending book.

Our mornings begin quietly. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee drifts through the café as early visitors settle into corners with novels. The kitchen hums with activity — croissants warming, ginger tea steeping, breakfasts sizzling. It’s the time when locals stop by for a calm start to their day.

By midday, the café comes alive. Travelers drop in from the temples nearby, hungry for tartines and charcuterie. Conversations buzz in English, French, Lao, and a dozen other languages. Our bookshelves see constant motion as guests trade novels and travel guides. This is when the café feels like the crossroad of the world.

Evening brings transformation. The lights dim, lanterns glow, and the café shifts into a cozy bar. Friends gather over wine, cocktails are poured, and music floats softly in the background. There’s laughter, there are stories, and sometimes — there’s even poetry read aloud.

Behind all this is our dedicated team, led by Milane, who makes everyone feel like family. Running the café isn’t just about serving food or maintaining shelves — it’s about creating an atmosphere where people feel at home, even far from home.

And when we finally close our doors at night, the café is quiet again — but full of echoes from the day’s stories. Tomorrow, new ones will be written.
